No Shuttle Launch Sunday

The Shuttle won't be going up on Sunday as there was a lightning strike on the launch pad. It's been delayed 24 hours to make sure everything is ok.

Oh well. It happens more often than not. A delay is the norm. Getting the Shuttle off the ground during the first window almost never happens.

I'll have to march outside with everyone at work Monday evening and see if it goes up then.

How often do they launch space shuttles? Not all of them are manned, right? Or are they..

They used to go up at least a couple of times per year, until the Columbia disaster in February of 2003.

They've only gone up twice since then. They are still in ultra careful mode, and delay or cancelation is common.

This time, we have Ernesto coming our way, and it takes two full days to get the shuttle back into the Vehicle Assembly Building to ride out the (potential) storm.

If they can get back in a groove, they'll probably go up every 3-5 months.
